Pokémon Fake Red is an actual ROM Hack that alters the dialogue and features continuous snowfall whenever the player is outdoors. However, some sources suggest that it could be volcanic ash instead, as mentioned on TV Tropes. The characters in the game notice the player’s similarity to Red from Generation 1 and begin teasing him/her, all while grieving over Red’s absence. If you like this game and you wan to play the better version, you can play Pokemon False Red Redux.
Many minor NPCs don’t bother the player, they just miss Red. Some NPCs are normal, like those on S.S.Anne, some routes, and most in Rock Tunnel. Some NPCs still insult the player. The Victory Road trainers repeat “You’re not him.” and the guards before Victory Road say “…You can pass, but I wish you wouldn’t.” The Elite Four hint at being in a different universe. The Pokémon League members advise the player to give up.
Most gym leaders insult the player, but Lt Surge respects the player after losing. Bill is kind until the player returns from Sevii Islands, then insults Fire. Blaine acts nice but has a mean quiz. Nurse Joy says “Please don’t come back,” but encourages after a Black Out.
Gary hates Fire/Leaf for “replacing” Red, but realizes it’s just a game after battling in the Elite Four. Oak breaks the 4th Wall. After beating Gary on S.S.Anne, he says “Oh god. What have you done?” hinting at the Raticate theory. Giovanni accepts defeat easily.
The mother mourns Red. Oak treats Fire well, but his PC message says “I’m sorry, we couldn’t find him.” Signs and legendary birds say “Come home.”
