Pokemon Unknown

Pokemon Unknown cover is made by Ducumon
Name: Pokemon Unknown
Remade by: brazgardian and Pokemon Unknown team
Based on: Pokemon Fire Red
Source link: https://unknown.foobear.org
Description:
This hack “Pokemon Unknown” is based on Pokémon FireRed which focuses on creating a more natural and immersive randomized experience. Battles and encounters are always unknown, which attempts to bring the unpredictability of competitive battling into the Kanto story.

If you need a good randomizer rom hack, you can play Pokemon Red Extreme Randomizer.

All wild encounters, trainer battles, and gift Pokémon are thematically randomized on the fly.

This means a Pokémon’s power level and types are derived from the vanilla FireRed engine. Unlike some randomizers, you can’t encounter fully evolved or legendary Pokémon in route 1. Naturally, you cannot fish/surf a fire type either. We’ve also overhauled a number of features to make them thematically random including: Mixed Generations of Starters, Pikachu, Unown, Trades, Gifts, Overworld Pokémon, and added a number of new Mega forms.

As a result, the hack should be very replayable, much more challenging than vanilla, and with more controlled entropy compared to most other randomizers.

Highlighted Features:
Includes 905 Pokémon
Smart AI and Teams
Thematic randomization
Achievements new
Endgame System new
72 Mega evolutions
Jessie and James Rivals
Pikachu & Unown Buffs
Includes Hisui Pokémon
Built-in challenge modes
Built-in nuzlocke modes
Min-grinding mode
Automated healing
Automated nicknames
Trade System Overhaul

Game Modes
Smogon usage statistics and movesets from 2015-2023 have been collected and used to influence nearly every element of random Pokémon selection in the game. While the entroy is reduced this way, there’s still far too many enemy Pokémon combinations to account for.
The core game difficulty mostly manipulates Pokémon IV/EV stats to buff or nerf enemy Pokémon. Illegal stats are never used in any mode. The most fair setting is Normal. Casual gives the player a statistical advantage and Hard gives the enemy one.

Casual – The player has a stat advantage on average over all trainers.
Normal – The most fair setting. It is interpolated between Casual and Hard.
Hard – Trainers have a stat advantage on average. This mode is the opposite of casual.
We implemented optional built-in challenge modes to help players nuzlocke, sadlocke, or just play with restricted encounters. The built-in rules are lenient regarding Gifts and Trades, which are not included in the encounter restriction logic. These are meant to be quality of life, are totally optional, can be turned on or off at any time, and could be mixed and matched with self-enforced rules.

Nuzlocke – Fainted Pokémon can’t be revived or healed (uses encounter lock).
Sadlocke – Fainting reduces happiness by 100, and makes Pokémon disobedient (uses encounter lock).
Encounter Lock – Only the first encounter per wild zone can be caught (with shiny and duplicate clauses).
Unrestricted – There are no additional constraints on catching or using Pokémon in battle.
We have also implemented a few quality of life toggle options.

Level Caps – Blocks the player from leveling past gym levels.
Itemless – Blocks the player from using the item bag in battle.
Automatic Nicknames – Gives random nicknames (you can still give custom nicknames anyways).

Min-grinding Mode
This is an optional mode which neutralizes IVs and EVs for the player and enemy. It was designed to have no impact on the difficulty modes. On average, playing with or without it should be just as difficult whether you are in min-grinding mode or not. In practice, this may vary since having competitive vs. uniform stats can have more impact on some Pokémon than others.

If this mode is not enabled then it is HIGHLY recommended to use the new EV vitamins (Super and Max) in the Celadon Department Store. Once this mode is enabled, it cannot be disabled since it would be exploitable and confusing for the player.

When this mode is enabled, the player has uniform EVs=min(level, 85) and IVs=14-16. Enemy stats vary depending on the difficulty mode. Generally, Casual has flat zeros, Normal has average, and Hard has perfect stats. There is small +-1 variance to all stats though.

Achievements
There are 5 achievements which are logged to the back of your Trainer Card. These are only cosmetic and replace the old FRLG records:
Hall Of Fame Debut – Beat the Elite Four for the first time.
I Choose You! – Win 100 trainer battles with your starter.
Catch ‘Em All – Catch all Pokémon from the national Pokédex.
Best Friends – Win a battle with a full team of max happiness.
Leadership – Earn 5-stars as a Gym Leader at least once.

The star system on the front of the Trainer Card is unchanged from FRLG:
1 Stars – Beat the Elite Four for the first time.
2 Stars – Catch all Pokémon from the Kanto Pokédex.
3 Stars – Catch all Pokémon from the national Pokédex.

Endgame System
After defeating the E4, the player may optionally choose to take over the Viridian Gym.

This acts as an endless randomized battle system with ways to track your ranking and streaks in game. This includes about 38 trainer classes for you to can battle against (and 1000s of names). The trainer classes each have their own text and difficulty, which affects their team and AI (Bug Catchers are easy while Ace Trainers will be boss level). They sometimes have type biases in their teams, in line with their theme.

The battles are fought consecutively in bouts of 5 with healing in between. Losing a battle does not interupt the gauntlet.

Max rank is 5 Stars, based on win % and the totals battles fought (using an exponential moving average to allow for some recency in the calc). You’ll need at least 32 battles under your belt for a chance at 5 Stars and a win rate ≥ 90%. As your win % increases so does you reputation. As your reputation spreads, you’ll start to be challenged by more diverse and difficult classes of trainers.

FAQ:

Where do I find X Pokémon?

It depends. Generally, in any area where their type could spawn in the wild. That said there are low chances (5-9%) for new types to spawn instead of a few. Fairy and fighting can spawn instead of Normal. Dragon or Psychic instead of Flying. Ice instead of Water. Grass instead of Bug. Steel instead of Rock. Dark or Ghost at night.

Do cheats work?

Friendship cheats can break the nuzlocke healing code. Rare candies cheats should be fine, but we’ve added an infinite rare candy “Bubble Gum” which you can get in the Viridian School. You may also use the trainer simulator if you want a more engaging way to grind levels (very fast).

What do the move colors indicate in battle?

Move effectiveness (courtesy of the CFRU).

Where do I get the Mega Ring?

Route 15 Professor Aid Quest.

Can I complete the Pokédex?

Yes. There are 905 catchable Pokémon in the national dex.

How do I change natures?

Mints in the Celadon Dept. Store.

How do I grind EVs?

Vitamins in the Celadon Dept. Store.

Is there an experience grinder?

There’s a trainer simulator that gives boosted experience (which you’re allowed to run from) in the upstairs of every Pokécenter. We also have added an infinite rare candy item to the Viridian School.

How do I mega evolve?

Have the mega ring in your bag. Give a Pokémon the appropriate mega stone which can be bought from Celadon Dept. store. Then in any battle, press start before selecting a move.

How do I use z crystals?

You can get them from the Celadon Dept. store. They work similar to mega, so a Pokémon needs to hold the z crystal then press start while in battle before selecting the move.

Is the AI reading my move selection to make its own?

No, the CFRU does not work that way. But it will try to predict your move.

Is the AI’s team based on my team?

Nope. Your team has absolutely nothing to do with the AI team’s generation.
