Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Will the savefiles from the current version be compatible with the next version?
A: History with this hack says “No.”

Q: How can I get a Keystone? What about the Mega Stones? Is Mega Evolution even implemented in this hack?
A: It IS implemented, you can’t get a Keystone at the moment and naturally that means you cannot get the Mega Stones either.

Q: Does this hack have a Real-Time Clock?
A: Yes, it does. Some bonus/side chapters depend on it, but all the main chapters can be played normally even if you don’t have access to it.

Q: What emulator should I use to play this hack?
A: Aethestode highly suggests to use VisualBoyAdvance v1.7.2 or v1.8.0 to play this hack.
This doesn’t mean that the hack won’t work in other platforms or devices, but it does mean that no support for them will be given in this thread, at least on my behalf.
Note: VisualBoyAdvance-M is a separate emulator. VisualBoyAdvance refers to the older versions whose development ceased back in 2004.

Q: I can’t save! The game gets stuck in a white/black screen on bootup! Can you help me?
A: If you’re using VBA, make sure that the Save Type is set to Automatic and Flash 128K in Options > Emulator > Save Type.
If you’re using MyBoy! then you can achieve the same result by going to Settings > Advanced > Cartridge Save Type > Automatic.

Q: What do I do after getting the HM02 Whirlpool?
A: Go towards the east from Kinnow Island.

Q: I won the Kanto League, I won the Orange Cup, what now?
A: You have a few Lv255 challenges in Cerulean Cave, Valencia Island’s Network and the Kantonian Gyms.
Other than that; you could try to complete the Pokédex as much as it is possible, play whatever bonus/side chapters you may have missed, and get all the items you forgot to pick up.

Q: When I use Teleport out of battle or an Escape Rope, I get sent to the weirdest places! What can I do?
A: Don’t use it outside of battle. It’s bugged. It’s been bugged for a long time now.

Q: A cloaked person in Valencia Island’s PokéCenter mentions an abandoned house in Sunburst Island, but the only thing there is the Crystal Onix cave! What do I do?
A: That bonus/side chapter is not playable. It will be properly implemented in the upcoming expansion of the Beta 15, as stated in the Special Updates Post linked above.

Q: Where can I get X or Y Pokémon or Legendary Pokémon?
A: Look at the Obtainable Pokémon List in the Guides Section. If it or its preevolutions or evolutions are not there, there’s a high chance it’s currently not obtainable.

Q: Where can I get X or Y TM/HM?
A: Look at the TMs and HMs Location List in the Guides Section. If it’s not there, there’s a high chance it’s currently not obtainable.

Q: Are TMs in this hack reusable?
A: Yes.

Q: Does this hack have the Physical/Special/Status Split?
A: Yes.

Q: This move isn’t doing Super Effective damage against that Pokémon! What gives?
A: Type effectiveness for this hack has been modified. You have a table depicting its new modus operandi in the Guides Section.

Q: I need to go all the way back to Trovita Island and I’m currently in Kumquat Island, but I forgot how to get there. Help?
A: Go southwest until you reach Kinnow Island, from there go all west and then all north, once you reach Mandarin Island, take the ferry and that’s pretty much it.

Q: There’s moves missing in the Move Relearner screen. What gives?
A: It’s a never fixed bug. There is nothing I can do about it. Sorry.

Q: I’m seeing items located in places that I have no access to, like behind some trees in Viridian City. Why is that?
A: It’s a gift for the people who use cheats/gameshark codes.

Q: Are there costumes? How can I get them?
A: Yes, there’s a few. Only 2 are obtainable besides the Default and FRLG Costumes that you start with though.
You can get a Team Rocket Grunt costume by simply playing the storyline.
You can get a Yukata by interacting with a guy using glasses in Floral City, which you can access by playing the Love Letter Bonus/Side Chapter.

Q: I like this sprite used in the hack! Can I use it?
A: Yes, you can. Despite what Aethestode says, I (Lunos) encourage you to give credits where they’re due. Don’t disrespect the effort poured into those sprites.

Q: This costume lacks a back sprite! Red is not showing up! What gives?
A: The backsprites of various costumes were removed due to an unfixable problem with the sprite palettes.

Q: Even though I’m holding the B Button and Red is running, he just looks like he’s walking fast. Why is that?
A: Too many costumes, too many sprite frames to design, too much effort for little gain.

Q: Why can I not keep the Bicycle after the race in Route 11?
A: As per Aethestode’s words; Too many animations and sprites to design, it looks weird on cutscenes and interferes with certain ASM Routines that this hack uses.

Q: When I use this costume, Red’s mugshot/portrait doesn’t change. Why?
A: The costumes only change your front sprite and overworld sprites.

Q: Dude, I completed the Kanto Pokémon League and revisited the gyms. The Gym Leaders have 6 Lv255 Pokémon! WHY?!
A: Endgame content. If you feel like you’re not up to the challenge, train and try again at a later time. Using competitive strategies is also encouraged.

Q: I noticed that you can catch Shaymin after winning the Orange Cup and it mentions the Sinnoh Region! How can I get there?
A: Shaymin and the Sinnoh Region is a storyline that’s planned for the hack, but it wasn’t implemented yet.

Q: In the list of features up there you mention there’s multiple regions, but are all of them implemented in the hack already, or…?
A: No, they’re not. Currently, only the Kanto Region and the Orange Archipelago are implemented in the hack.
The rest of the regions will be implemented slowly, with each new major release of the hack. The plan is to have them all for the final release of the hack.

Changelogs:
Warning: Support for cheats is not offered, if you decide to use them, you’re on your own.

Beta 15 + Expansion
Below is the latest Beta 15 patch (29th September, 2020)
This version contains the Kanto Region and the Orange Archipelago + The Beginning of Elite Four
This will be the final major update for Red Chapter Vol 1. Any future updates will be strictly on squashing Gamebreaking bugs. Vol 2 is under development.
NOTE: YOU’LL NEED TO START A NEW SAVEFILE!

Beta 15:
This beta officially ends after winning the Orange Cup.
NOTE: BETA 14 SAVEFILES ARE NOT REALLY COMPATIBLE. YOU REALLY SHOULD START A NEW SAVEFILE.

This is beta 14.5. Turns out there was a freeze glitch in beta 14.4. This will fix it.
This is beta 14.4. Turns out there was a freeze glitch in beta 14.3. This will fix it.
Beta 14.3 is here. It fixes most of the glitches (at least the game breaking ones). There’s a “glitch cleaner” in your room, use it to fix the fashion box glitch where it changes you into Blue instead of Red.
Beta 14.2 This fixes the glitch in the Tangelo Island Wildlife Park
Beta 14.1 (fixes the gamebreaking glitches e.g. Dark Relic chapter)
Beta 15.3 (fixed something on beta 15.2)
Beta 15.4 (This patch fixes the bug where after Blue’s chapter, you’ll stay as Blue. If your character is already “blue”, simply teleport back to Pallet Town and use the Glitch Cleaner in your room.)
